Taft (2023 - Current)

Discovered in 1880, Taft is situated in a major petroleum and natural gas production region of California and is one of the few remaining towns in the United States which exist exclusively because of surrounding oil reserves. More than a billion barrels of oil have been pulled from the Taft area. There’s so much oil in Kern County that in many places oil oozes out of cracks in the ground.
